The horse and cattle were enjoying their day in the sun!
********
Decided to stop by the Main Barn and see what was happening in there..

This little guy was looking for some attention..

What a cute little face..

Well, Hello who do we have here..Haven't seen you before..This little girl came to greet me as I made my way back to the other pens..So cute and friendly..I use to have cats years ago, sometimes I do miss having one..

Ahh!! what a beauty..

Well, Who do we have here..Looks like someone wanted to get out of the Hen house for awhile..I don't blame him..when I walked by the hen house I heard alot of chatter coming from inside.

Must be nap time for these two..

Taking a break from greeting the visitors..

Love the color of this sheep..What beautiful wool.

Bye little one till next time..What a lucky cat to just lay around and roam the grounds of Malabar Farms..

Another shot of the horse and cattle grazing.

This house is so beautiful no matter what the season..

A picture of the hen house..Cute!!

A veiw of the pond from the house..

I like the way this picture of the pond turned out..

Another shot of the house from the end of the lane.

Love this stairway going up the right side of the house ..

Another shot of the pond from the lane in front of the house..

Picture from Bromfield Road..
****
I decided to drive over to the Working Farm for a change and see what was going on..

Talk about a noisy greeting, these guys made themselves known when I got out of the van..

What beauties..

These ducks were enjoying the sunshine and water..

Look at those faces..

I think these guys were deciding on weather they wanted in the water or just stay on the banks..

Again, As I was leaving they started to make themselves know again..

Another shot of pond at the working farm..

Hostel International..If you are visiting Malabar Farms and need a place to stay..this 19 bed hostel is operated year round..Call 419-892-2055 for information and reservations..

I never noticed this sign at the Working Farm..It reads:
Victory Garden
1941-1946
During World War 11, many Americans on the home front planted Victory Gardens to support the war effort.
Bromfield's Garden supplied fresh vegetables to the families of Malabar Farm workers..
Surplus was sold at the Roadside Market.
Resources of all kinds were diverted to support the nations war efforts. A shortage of metal made tin cans, tinned food unavailable. So people grew their own fresh vegetables in..
"Gardens for Victory"
Even city folks who had never planted a garden learned how in order to support the cause, Victory Gardens of all shapes and sizes dotted the American landscape.
The Malabar Farm Staff, Volunteers and Friends maintain this model Victory Garden.

A view of Mt. Jeez..the road was closed so we didn't get to go up..

This Barn is across form the Malabar Farm Restaurant on Pleasant Valley Road..
I hope you enjoyed your little trip around Malabar Farms as much as I enjoy bringing these pictures to you..Helen enjoyed her time there also and like seeing all the animals and just getting out and enjoying the beauty of this wonderful place..

Malabar's Farm Market

This little market is right next to the Malabar Farm Restaruant..When you buy your vegetables or fruit it is all done on the honor system..The green tall post to the right of the picture is where you put your money..

Corn anyone!!

Everything looked so good..
The sign below hangs at the Farm Market and I thought it was interesting..

It reads:
This Spring, now know at Malabar as the Niman Spring was familiar to the Indians for centuries.Johnny Appleseed frequently stopped here and the water was appreciated by the deer which still come at nightfall to drink from the pond. The Spring breaks out from the deep underlying silurian sandstone in a small cavern in the hillside and supplies water for the Old Spring House, a Residence, Two Stock Tanks, The Market Stand, A watercress Bed, A Barn, Three Hoglots and the pond from which the Gardens are irrigated.
The nearby residence was built in 1820 as a combination Residence and Stage Coach Tavern. After the fear of the Indians had been broken forever at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The Fine Spring decided its location on the outskirts of Newville, then the most important settlement in the County..Newville disppeared with the construction of Pleasant Hill Dam.
Pleasant Valley Road was once an Indian Trail. Leading from the Ohio River to Lake Erie and later an important means of transporting Wheat to Ship and Railroad..Spring Capacity 2,000 Gal. Per Hour with 3" change all year.

Summertime at Malabar Farms

A wonderful way to be greeted as you come up the lane to the farm..

Flowers by the Old Corn Crib

Look who was out enjoying the day.

Remember these little guys from the Spring..Oh! How they have grown they are so adorable and they were "loving" all the attention they were getting..

I guess we know who rules the Barnyard :)

Inside the Barn were some beautiful Steers just resting..

The Escape Artist..this little guy was born up at the Farm Office and they brought him to the Barn..He couldn't go in with the other ducks since they were picking on him and he couldn't go on the pond because of the snapping turtles..so they put him in here till they decide what to do with him..but he kept escaping out of the stall..so they were putting up a wire fence inside the stall to keep him in..

Great little play area for the children inside the Barn..
Several pictures from around the Homestead..

The next time I go to Malabar I want to find out what the meaning is behind this elephant..

Inside the Old Smokehouse..which was built by Louis Bromfield of antique bricks and used to smoke meat for preservation..

A few more Pictures of the Barn and livestock resting under the shade tree as I was leaving...

I will add more pictures when Fall arrives..Or better yet, come and spend the weekend of Sept. 18th & 19th and visit Malabar Farms and our show "In The Spirit Of Friends" on Sept. 18th, 10-4 www.inthespiritoffriends.blogspot.com and www.malabarfarm.org for more information..Hope to see you there..

What a fun day I had today..I made it to Malabar Farms and went inside the homestead..I didn't want to leave.. :)
First, I would like to "thank" Peg for the fun tour and giving me a glimpse into the life of the Bromfield family..As I looked at the house from the outside..I would have never thought that I would feel so at home once inside..One could have just taken a book and curled up next to the fireplace..the atmosphere just gives you such a welcome feeling..What fun it would have been to see the Bromfield children living here...a wonderful childhood and the lovely memories they must have..
Enjoy the following pictures of this Beautiful home.
